Past Projects
IWE-X (2005-2006): IWE-X is Platform developed to provide roaming services among WiFi/WiMAX networks. It provides AAA services under RADIUS protocol and providing an open billing platform for roaming services.
MobilMedia Project (2005-2006): Far away from the first mobile devices, designed to cover a basic range of communication needs (such as voice and text communications), the new generation mobile devices feature GPS, advanced user interaction and even digital video capability. As mobile technology keeps on improving, the understanding and use of mobile devices do as well. Massive Multiplayer Online Games, Video On Demand, Interactive Marketing, Rich IM via mobile... the MediaMobile project sets this new horizon as its main goal.
VoIP Neutral Point (2004-2006) : The VoIP neutral point was initially born as an industrial research project. Its main goal is to become an standard VoIP service supplier platform for commercial VoIP providers. The VoIP neutral point technologies will ensure a better end-user experience as they improve the quality of services at low costs, and will also benefit the commercial VoIP services providers, reducing the Capex/Opex rates.
COST290 (2004-...):Traffic and QoS Management in Wireless Multimedia Networks.
Mobicat Platform (2003-2007): MOBICAT is a Open Wireless Platform that supports different projects related to wireless networks incide the i2CAT Foundation. This platform offers different services such as WiFi access to the i2CAT fiber backbone, WiMAX/WiFi high capacity links for audiovisual demonstrations, UMTS terminals and SIMs, as well as MESH equipment.
WiFi Barcelona (2003-2007): The Project consists on the definition of a framework to offer public WiFi services in the city of Barcelona. Several issues are addressed in this Project: regulation of WiFi, organizacional models, software platform to interconnect WiFi hotspots, etc. All of them around the concept of open networks.
SIMA ( 2003-2006): Sistemas Inteligentes Móviles Avanzados. TIC2003-09279. Comisión Interministerial de Ciencia y Tecnología. In cooperation with LSI-UPC.
Patrol Project (2004-2005): Development of P2Talk over GPRS. Testing and Validation. IN cooperation woth Genaker SL and i2CAT.
Integrated Research Project i2CAT (2004-2005): The Integrated Research Project is divided in different modules to organize the Internet research at differents levels with a common objective: the creation of audiovisual peer-to-peer services running over an advanced Internet infrastructure. NeTS has been active inthe definition of QoS mechanisms in the wireless part of the network as well as researching for security improvements at routing levels for MANETs.
COSF (2004-2005): Open Wireless Catalonia (Catalunya Oberta Sense Fils)
The COSF Project defines an action plan, tools and recommendations in order to establish the technologic parameters for a development and interconnection of innovator public wireless networks.
WirelessMedia (2004): The aim of Wireless Media project is to explore the multimedia services in the mobile technologies. To be precise, Wirless Media project pretends to assess new wireless technologies and develop prototypes in order to acquire average knowledge.
Assistance at Home (GPRS) (2003): For the Continuous Care programme at the Hospital Clínic, a GPRS network was implemented and connected to i2CAT. Mobile equipment was used to monitor patients in their own homes via this network. These mobile monitoring units provide Internet services that may be of great relevance in medical care, such as access to educational material for patients and specialists. A limited amount of this educational material is already available on the Continuous Care programme's Internet server, which will only continue to grow.
OSA/Parlay Developing UMTS apps (2003): Network technologies cluster developed UMTS-i2CAT. UMTS project developes UMTS mobile applications. An open platform creates the services. This solution, called middleware, helps companies to use the same services in any net with the same interface as the service. The prototype was developed by UPC and UPF using the Accenture-Nortel OSA/Paralay platform and the Vodafone UMTS net.
ACIMUT : Acceso a Internet Móvil sobre UMTS (CICYT TIC2000-1120-C03-02) Development of UMTS platforms for mobile applications.
